Adding ingredients to a recipe

Both ingredients and recipes (as sub dishes) can be added to a dish recipe.  To add ingredients or sub dishes to your recipe ensure that you have the recipe open in edit mode.

Click on the Ingredients tab.

For a new recipe that contains no ingredients click the [click here to add ingredients to your recipe] link located at the top of the ingredients tab.  To add ingredients to a recipe that already contains some ingredients, click the edit ingredient list link located below the list of existing ingredients.  This will open the ingredient and recipe selector pop-up window.

By default ingredients (rather than recipes) are displayed in the available list.  To find a specific ingredient or to reduce the number of results displayed use the search and filter facility.  When the ingredient you wish to add is displayed in the available list, click on it to add it to the selected list on the left.  To remove an ingredient from the selected list simply click on it and it will be removed.

To view a tooltip which displays the supplier and supplier code information for a displayed ingredient in the selector window, hold your mouse over the ingredient.

It is also possible to view a pop-up window displaying details of the ingredient - click on the information icon (i) to view the pop-up.

Users who have access to nutrition features will also be able to view the nutrition information (if any is available) in the ingredient pop-up window.

If you want to add recipes as sub dishes to your recipe then select Recipes from the Available drop-down on the selector pop-up window.  Once again you can use the search and filter facility to find your recipe more quickly.  When the recipe is displayed in the available list click on it to add it to the selected list on the left.

Recipes are displayed in the selected list with a chef's hat icon, ingredients are displayed with a carrot icon:

Once you have selected your ingredients and sub dishes click the OK button to return to the main window.

You must specify the quantities and units for each ingredient and sub dish selected before you can save the recipe. Enter a numeric quantity (use decimals in place of fractions) and select a unit from the drop-down list.

When specifying the unit for an ingredient, your choice of units will be limited to the same unit type as that specified for the ingredient. For example, if the ingredient is supplied in kilograms (mass), you will be restricted to using any mass unit for that ingredient in the recipe. If the ingredient is supplied by the litre (volume), you will be restricted to using any volume unit for that ingredient in the recipe unless you have specified a conversion for the ingredient which will give you greater flexibility when using ingredients in recipes.

A slightly different rule applies when specifying quantities and units for a sub dish. If the recipe yield for a sub dish has not been specified then you are restricted to using servings as the measurement unit, however, if the recipe yield for a sub dish has been entered, you will have the choice of using servings or units limited to the same unit type as specified in the recipe yield for the sub dish.

If you have specified a Wastage AP/EP% value for a chosen ingredient you an apply the wastage percent here by placing a tick in the Apply Wastage check box.

Click the Save button to save your changes.
